24 November 1991, farewell to Freddy Mercury

On November 24, 1991, one of the most talented and virtuoso geniuses of modern music passed away: Freddy Mercury.

That day the leader of the Queen surrendered to theAIDS, a few years after the diagnosis of HIV (which happaned during 1986).

In 2001 he was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while the magazine Rolling Stone ranked him as eighteenth in the ranking of the hundred best singers of all time. Today Freddy Mercury remains a myth of music and not only: in addition to his great talent, people remember him for his goodness of soul and sensitivity.

The historian Live Aid in Wembley
Among the performances of the Queen remains famous the concert for the Live Aid at the Wembley Stadium in London. The 20 minutes in which the Queen took the stage are famously regarded as one of the greatest rock performances in music history.

Solo career
In addition to the experience with Queen, in the 80s Freddy Mercury also attempted a solo career releasing two albums in 1985 and 1988. For the 1988 album he began a collaboration with the Spanish soprano Montserrat Caballé.

The tribute concert in his honor
On April 20, 1992, a concert was organized in his honor, the Freddy Mercury Tribute Concert, attended by many world-famous artists. The aim of the concert was also to raise money to found The Mercury Phoenix Trust, an organization committed to the fight against AIDS.
