As a child, Angus was intolerant of school education: his favourite subject was art, where he could put all his creativity into practice. Paradoxically, even in music he could not get good grades: his teacher believed that the future AC/DC guitarist had no sense of rhythm. On the back cover of the High Voltage album, there is also a school letter reporting Angus' and his brother Malcolm's bad behaviour at school: partly because of his difficult relationship with education, Angus very often performs dressed as a schoolboy, for provocative purposes.
The name of th band was suggested by Malcom's and Angus' older sister, Margaret, who read on an electrical appliance the words AC/DC, or Alternate Current/Direct Current. Malcom and Angus thought this name was perfect to express the dynamism and electricity of the band.
Angus Young is just 5 feet 5 inches tall, but his short stature has never been a problem. On the contrary, his height has become a distinguishing feature: in 2005, in fact, Maxim magazine voted Angus the "most important short person of all time."
Among the typical features of Angus Young, in addition to schoolboy attire and index fingers on the head to mimic horns, is the "Duck Walk", which is a movement of jumping on one leg with the guitar while moving the other back and forth. This is a clear homage to Chuck Berry, who was the inventor of the Duck Walk, as well as being one of Angus 's musical idols along with Louis Armstrong.
Usually when we think of a rockstar alcohol and drugs automatically come to mind. In this sense, Angus is a real exception: the guitarist has always reiterated that he has never abused substances and that he hates alcoholic beverages. In particular, the musician has stated that his favorite drink is tea.
